The latest version of the Nissan Sentra arrived in early 2020 with a new, sleeker look that brings it in line with the more upscale Maxima. It also arrives with a larger engine. The Sentra sits on an all-new platform that is wider and lower than before, and it has the V-motion grille. Along with its new looks, there are many reasons that commuters will love driving the new Sentra. Here is a look at some of the reasons why.
1. Power and Performance
All the Sentra models now get their power from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It develops 149 horsepower and gets 146 pound-feet of torque and works with front-wheel drive. A CVT is the only available transmission. The new engine provides the Sentra with a better fuel economy that commuters will appreciate. The new platform has an independent rear suspension and a McPherson strut front suspension. This, along with the lower center of gravity and revised steering, improve this sedan’s handling and ride comfort.
2. The Cabin
Nissan made changes to the interior of the Sentra too. Commuters will enjoy the driver-focused controls and sporty feel in the cabin. The base trim comes with a 6-way manual adjustable driver’s seat, full-power accessories, cruise control, and a 60/40 split rear seat. The SV with the Premium Package has quilted leather upholstery on the seats, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and heated front seats. The SR switches out the leather seats and adds sport-cloth with orange stitching, while the SV with the Premium Package returns to the leather seats.
3. Technology
The Sentra now comes standard with a 7-inch touch-screen display and a climate control screen that sits below it. An optional 8-inch touch screen is available for the higher trim levels, and these also offer an upgraded digital driver display screen. The upgraded infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Bluetooth comes standard along with a USB port, hands-free text messaging, and Siri Eyes-Free voice recognition. Two extra USB ports come with the SV.
4. Safety Features
Drivers will feel safe during their commute with the long list of advanced safety features that come as standard equipment. The Safety Shield 360 safety technologies include pedestrian detection, automatic braking, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlight assist, and automatic rear braking. The SV adds adaptive cruise control, and the SR Premium Package adds Nissan’s 360-degree Around View monitor.
5. The Exterior
Exterior features for the 2020 Sentra include 16-inch steel wheels for the entry-level S. This trim also gets automatic halogen headlights while stepping up to the SV gets you 16-inch alloy wheels, heated side door mirrors with LED turn signals. The SV Premium package adds projector LED headlights and LED daytime running lights, and you also get 17-inch alloy wheels and a power moonroof. Stepping up again to the SR adds 18-inch alloy wheels, exterior body cladding, and reflector LED headlights.
